Step 9: Making Amends
"Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others."
Step 9 is where action meets intention. After preparing our list in Step 8, we now take real steps to make things right — face-to-face, heart-to-heart, where safe and appropriate. It’s not about fixing the past, but about freeing ourselves and others from its weight.
💬 What Are Amends?
More than apologies, amends involve change. Sometimes it means saying “I was wrong.” Sometimes it’s repaying money, or simply living differently. We approach this step with care, courage, and a desire to bring healing, not more harm.
🧠 Reflection Questions
- Which amends are I ready to make today?
- Which ones may need more time, prayer, or support?
- How can I practice living amends — showing change in my actions?
✍️ Journaling Prompt
Write a letter to one person on your Step 8 list. You don’t have to send it. Just let the truth come out. Acknowledge your part. Then, write what you’re doing today to live differently.
