Step 4 AA: Fearless Moral Inventory Guide

Step 4: Moral Inventory

"Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves."

Step 4 asks us to shine a light inward — not to shame or blame, but to heal. This step is often called the “housecleaning” step. It’s where we look honestly at our resentments, fears, harms, and patterns so we can let go of what no longer serves us.

🔍 What Does It Mean to Take Inventory?

Think of it like checking the shelves of your emotional and spiritual life. What have you been holding onto? What beliefs, behaviors, or wounds are keeping you stuck? This step is not about perfection — it’s about truth.

🧠 Reflection Questions

  • What resentments or regrets am I still carrying?
  • What fears drive my decisions?
  • Where have I caused harm — and how might I begin making peace?
