The Intake Valve: Step 5
Step 5 is the Audit. We’ve listed the damaged stock; now we show the ledger to the New Employer and another person to make sure the "Shop" is truly clean.
The End of the Secret Life
For years, my biggest problem wasn't just the drink—it was the Secrets. I had rooms in my mind that were locked shut, full of the "Wreckage of the Past." Even after taking the Step 4 inventory, the old Manager wanted to keep a few secrets "off the books."
I/We found that as long as we kept one secret, we kept the "Mental Blank Spot" alive. In the Back to Basics sessions, the admission was done immediately. We took our four columns and sat down with a trusted friend. We didn't just "talk"; we audited the facts. By dragging the wreckage into the light, the shame lost its power to sink the ship.
The Mechanic: Settling the Account
Why do we need another person? Because the "Manager's" mind is designed to lie to itself. We need a second set of eyes to spot the flaws we missed. The 1939 Blueprint is clear: we admit to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
- Honesty: Opening every door in the shop. No more "Hidden Inventory."
- Humility: Accepting that we aren't the "Life of the Party"—we are an employee in training.
- The Result: A sense of Peace and Neutrality. The engine finally stops knocking because the grit has been removed.
When you finish Step 5, you aren't "forgiven" by a court; you are aligned with the truth. You are finally ready for the New Employer to start the engine overhaul in Steps 6 and 7.
🔧 Mechanic’s Order for Today:
Find Your Witness. Don't overthink who it should be. Find one person you can trust—someone who understands the 1939 Blueprint—and ask for an hour of their time. Tell them you need to "Settle the Account."
The "Mental Blank Spot" cannot survive the truth. Pick up the phone today.
